Microsoft Lumia 640XL : 2 years later

Microsoft phones 2 years ago

Yes, today most kids won't even know about Windows Phones, since Microsoft has stopped making Windows Phone. Today, Android and iPhones took over the market.
2 years ago, Microsoft unveiled their new mid-range smartphones. The 5-inch Lumia 640 and the huge 5.7-inch Lumia 640XL.

Lumia 640XL

This phone is the larger version of the Lumia 640, the differences is that the 640XL has 5.7-inch HD display, 13 MP main camera with Carl Zeiss lens, 5 MP front camera, and 3000mAh battery. I bought this phone for about $250 and it came with 1-year office 365 bundle. And I got the glossy white color, which looks kinda good.

This is not a flagship phone, so don't expect beautiful body or high end processor in it. The phone is covered in shell back cover, which is made of plastic. While up front there is a wide Corning Gorilla Glass 3 covering the display. The bezel is quite thick, and there is a small plastic lip around the glass, so the glass won't shatter easily when you drop it facing down. I used this phone without any case or screen protector, I got lots of micro scratches on the screen and the paint on the plastic shell got chipped mainly on the corners. I've dropped this phone like 5 times, and it survived. Even I dropped this phone to water and it still works. But not long after another drop the display got a little malfunction but it doesn't get shattered and still works. This phone definitely got the Nokia DNA on it.

Scrapes on body

Using this phone as a daily driver was quite a challenge, since this phone is rather slow and there aren't many apps available. Performance on this device is definitely terrible after the Windows 10 update. Scrolling across Instagram and Facebook isn't smooth at all. And the camera on this device is not that good. Taking still photos might be fine, but capturing moving objects won't be done. The camera took ages to capture an image, and usually it can't manage proper exposure.

Battery life is quite good though, with normal usage this  phone will last about more than 2 days, but charging this phone with the included power brick will took lots of time, since it's only a 750mA/5V power brick.

And Windows 10 Mobile is not that good, somehow it looks like a shrunken down Windows 10 PC. You wont be able to customize many things. You only get options for wallpaper, accent colors, and main colors (it's only black and white).

So let's conclude. This phone isn't for everyone. This phone might be a perfect phone for people who refuse to look the same, people who want to try something else without fearing the risk.
